If your User Profile Service Application Full and Incremental Syncs are not running with the above error showing in the Failed log, it means that your User Profile Synchronisation Service is not running on your server.
To fix this:
1. Browse to Central Administration
2. Go to System Settings --> Manage Services on Server
3. Select the server from the top right corner where the User Profile Synchronisaion Service is running.
4. Find the job in the list and it should be in a "Stopped" state
5. Click on Start
This can take up to 15 minutes to get started so be patient. Once complete, try running a sync again.

I am an IT Business Analyst based in Ireland with just over 2 years of experience administering SharePoint 2010 and now, SharePoint 2013. I ran the migration from SharePoint 2007 to 2010 and am now running migration from 2010 to 2013. I have completed Microsoft Certified Courses in both SharePoint 2010 and 2013 with MCTS certification and more to come. I hope that this blog helps others like me who are on the path to learning more and more about SharePoint.

Excellent solution.
ReplyDeleteIf you are using the AD Import method, and not the SharePoint profile surely you can disable this timer job ?
ReplyDeleteThis is the job than runs the import so that wouldn't be possible. It pulls the information from AD and vice versa if required.
