Creating a bookmark (anchor) link in SharePoint
Sometimes you will want to display a lot of information on
one page in SharePoint which could require headings at the top of the screen
with the ability to “jump to” a section on that page. In order to do this on
SharePoint, you need to create bookmarks.
1.
Highlight the text that you want to create as
your link
2.
Select Insert from the Editing Menu and choose
LinkàFrom
Address
3.
The text to display would be the text for your
link. In the address, you want to enter the name of your bookmark. For example,
if you wanted “Heading 1” to jump to “Section 1” you would enter the
information as per below where “#Section 1” is going to be the name of your
bookmark that we will define in the next step:

Click Ok
5.
Scroll to the area that you want to create your
bookmark, in this case, Section 1. Highlight the text and click on InsertàLinkàFrom Address

The text to display is the text for your
bookmark that is displayed to the user. Then you just type in “#” as the
address. # defines it as a bookmark or anchor.

Click Ok
8.
Make sure your “Section 1” text is still
highlighted, click on Link Tools from the editing menu. IN the bookmark text
box, enter in “section 1” as this is the name that you gave to the bookmark in
your first heading link.
9.
Click Save
10.
Publish the page

I received two links from a friend for doing this. Your link and another below. I've tried both and while the other link's steps instructions aren't as clear they do offer one advantage. When you click the "Section Heading" it will take you back to the Table of Contents (TOC). This makes it so I don't need to add the "back to top" links after each section. I just place a line of info at the top explaining that clicking the section headings will bring you back to the TOC. Maybe you could use you ability to better instruct with those steps.

The "back to the top" feature must have something to do with the pasting of the page URL into the Insert section, at least that's my guess.

You need to activate the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature through Site Settings, Site Collection Features.
ReplyDeleteI was having the same issue where my bookmark feature is grayed out. After searching online for some time, I found to active the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure through Site Settings, which I did. I also activated SharePoint Server Publishing through Manage Site features. Neither of these things changed the fact that bookmark field is still inactive. any other ideas on why this might be grayed out?
